Kerala
Welcome to Kerala — God’s Own Country
Kerala — ‘God’s Own Country’ — is one of India’s most beloved and enchanting travel destinations, a narrow, verdant strip of paradise along India’s southwestern coast where shimmering backwaters, mist-covered tea gardens, pristine beaches, ancient spice forests, and vibrant cultural traditions come together in a landscape of extraordinary richness. From the tranquil houseboat cruises of Alleppey’s backwater network — one of the most iconic travel experiences in all of Asia — to the rolling emerald tea estates of Munnar, the elephant-dotted forests of Thekkady’s Periyar Tiger Reserve, and the sun-drenched beaches of Kovalam and Varkala, Kerala is a destination that moves, heals, and inspires. The state is also the birthplace of Ayurveda and a global centre of traditional wellness, home to the classical art form of Kathakali and the martial art of Kalaripayattu. Our Kerala tour packages are designed to give you a perfectly curated, deeply immersive, and unforgettable journey through every beautiful corner of this magnificent South Indian state.
Top Places to Visit in Kerala
- Alleppey (Alappuzha) — The Venice of the East: The houseboat capital of India and the crown jewel of the Kerala backwaters, Alleppey is set in a vast network of canals, lagoons, and lakes fed by 44 rivers flowing into the Arabian Sea. An overnight houseboat (Kettuvallam) cruise on the Vembanad Lake is one of India’s most iconic travel experiences. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race — India’s most famous snake boat race — is held on Punnamada Lake every August, drawing thousands of spectators from across the world.
- Munnar — The Tea Garden Capital of South India: Perched at 1,600 metres in the Western Ghats, Munnar is Kerala’s most celebrated hill station — a landscape of unbroken emerald tea estates, cascading waterfalls, and misty mountain peaks. The Eravikulam National Park near Munnar is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and the breathtaking Neelakurinji flower bloom — a once-in-12-years phenomenon that carpets entire hillsides in blue-purple. Mattupetty Dam, Top Station, and Attukal Waterfalls are other key Munnar highlights.
- Thekkady (Periyar) — Wildlife & Spice Country: Home to the Periyar Tiger Reserve and National Park — one of India’s most visited and best-managed wildlife sanctuaries — Thekkady is set around the stunning Periyar Lake surrounded by dense shola forest. Boat safaris on the lake offer extraordinary sightings of wild elephants, bison, and exotic birds at the water’s edge. Thekkady is also the heart of Kerala’s spice plantation country — cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg estates surround the town and offer fascinating guided plantation walks.
- Wayanad — Kerala’s Wild Highland Retreat: Tucked in the northeastern highlands of Kerala at 700–2,100 metres, Wayanad is a lush, biodiverse district of dense rainforests, coffee and tea estates, tribal villages, and ancient caves. The Edakkal Caves contain prehistoric pictorial writings dating back to 6,000 BCE — among India’s most significant Neolithic heritage sites. Chembra Peak at 2,100 metres is a rewarding trek that passes a heart-shaped lake, and the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is home to tigers, elephants, and the endangered Nilgiri langur.
- Kovalam — Kerala’s Premier Beach Destination: Just 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam is Kerala’s most famous beach resort — a crescent of golden sand backed by swaying coconut palms and lapped by the warm Arabian Sea. The Lighthouse Beach, named for the iconic Vizhinjam Lighthouse, is the most popular and lively stretch. Kovalam is also one of India’s most established Ayurveda and wellness retreat destinations, with world-class resorts offering authentic Panchakarma treatments.
- Varkala — The Cliff Beach of Kerala: Unlike any other beach in India, Varkala is defined by its dramatic red laterite cliffs rising directly from the Arabian Sea. The Papanasam Beach at the base of the cliffs is believed to have sacred powers and draws both pilgrims and sun-seekers. The cliff-top promenade lined with cafes, yoga studios, and Ayurveda centres has made Varkala one of India’s most beloved wellness beach destinations. The Janardana Swami Temple at Varkala — over 2,000 years old — is one of Kerala’s most revered Vishnu temples.
- Kochi (Cochin) — The Queen of the Arabian Sea: Kerala’s most cosmopolitan city, Kochi is a vibrant port city where Portuguese churches, Dutch palaces, Jewish synagogues, and Chinese fishing nets coexist in the heritage quarter of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. The Paradesi Synagogue — India’s oldest active synagogue, the Chinese fishing nets introduced by Chinese explorer Zheng He in the 14th century, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale — Asia’s largest contemporary art festival — make Kochi a destination of extraordinary cultural depth.
- Kozhikode (Calicut) — The City of Spices: One of India’s great historic port cities, Kozhikode is the landing point of Vasco da Gama in 1498 and the cultural and culinary capital of North Kerala. The city is famous for Kozhikode Halwa, Malabar Biryani, and the legendary Kozhikode Banana Chips. Kappad Beach — where Vasco da Gama first landed in India — the Beypore fishing harbour, and the legendary S.M. Street food and spice bazaar are essential experiences.
Best Time to Visit Kerala
- October–February (Peak Season — Winter): The best and most recommended time to visit Kerala — cool, dry, and sunny across the state with temperatures between 20°C and 32°C. Backwater cruises, beach holidays, wildlife safaris, and hill station visits are all at their finest. November to January is peak tourist season — ideal for Alleppey houseboats, Munnar tea garden walks, Thekkady safaris, and Kovalam beach stays. The Onam harvest festival (August–September) and Thrissur Pooram (April–May) are Kerala’s most spectacular cultural celebrations.
- March–May (Summer): Temperatures rise across the plains to 30°C–38°C but Munnar, Wayanad, and Thekkady remain pleasantly cool — ideal for hill station escapes and wildlife visits. Kerala’s beaches are warm and sunny with calm Arabian Sea conditions perfect for water sports. April and May are considered the best season for Ayurveda Panchakarma treatments in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, as the pre-monsoon heat is believed to maximise the effectiveness of treatments.
- June–September (Monsoon — Ayurveda Season): Kerala’s legendary southwest monsoon arrives in June — the first state in India to receive the monsoon — transforming the landscape into a lush, dripping green paradise. Monsoon is considered the ideal and most auspicious season for Ayurveda. Wayanad and Munnar are spectacularly beautiful in the rain. Beach activities and backwater cruises are limited during peak monsoon months of July and August due to rough seas.
How to Reach Kerala
- By Air: Kerala has four international airports — making it one of the best-connected states in India for air travel. Cochin International Airport (Kochi) is the busiest and most well-connected, with flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and major international destinations. Trivandrum International Airport serves Kovalam and South Kerala, while Calicut International Airport and Kannur International Airport serve North Kerala and the Malabar coast.

Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam (Kochi), Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Kannur are all major railway junctions with direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The scenic railway journey along Kerala’s coast — passing backwaters, paddy fields, and coconut groves — is one of India’s most beautiful train routes.
- By Road: Kerala is well-connected by road to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Bangalore is 560 km from Kochi and Chennai is 670 km from Thiruvananthapuram. KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) operates an extensive network of luxury Volvo, AC sleeper, and super-express buses connecting Kerala to Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Mangalore — one of the most comfortable and affordable ways to travel between South Indian cities.
