Welcome to Andhra Pradesh — The Land of Temples, Beaches & Heritage
Andhra Pradesh is one of South India’s most spiritually significant, naturally diverse, and culturally rich states — a vast land stretching from the sacred hills of Tirumala to the golden coastline of the Bay of Bengal, and from the tribal highlands of Araku Valley to the ancient Buddhist heartland of Amaravati. Home to the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati — the most visited religious site in the world, the pristine beaches of Visakhapatnam, the spectacular Borra Caves, and the Lepakshi Temple with its legendary hanging pillar, Andhra Pradesh is a destination that rewards pilgrims, history lovers, beach seekers, and food enthusiasts alike. The state is also renowned for its classical Kuchipudi dance heritage and its exquisite Kalamkari craft tradition. Our Andhra Pradesh tour packages are thoughtfully crafted to take you through the spiritual depth, coastal beauty, and living cultural legacy of this extraordinary South Indian state.
Top Places to Visit in Andhra Pradesh
- Tirupati & Tirumala — The Spiritual Capital of India: The Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala is the most visited pilgrimage site in the world, receiving over 60,000 to 1,00,000 devotees every single day. Set atop the seven sacred hills of Tirumala at 853 metres, the temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara — a form of Lord Vishnu. Beyond the main shrine, Tirupati offers the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple at Tiruchanur, the scenic Talakona Waterfalls — Andhra’s highest waterfall — and the tranquil Chandragiri Fort.
- Visakhapatnam (Vizag) — The City of Destiny: Andhra Pradesh’s largest city and premier port, Visakhapatnam — fondly called Vizag — is set between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal, offering a stunning combination of beaches, hills, and urban vibrancy. RK Beach is the city’s iconic seafront. The INS Kurusura Submarine Museum — India’s first submarine museum — is a unique attraction. Vizag is also the gateway to Araku Valley, Borra Caves, and the beautiful Rishikonda Beach.
- Araku Valley — The Andhra Ooty: Tucked in the Eastern Ghats at 910 metres above sea level, Araku Valley is Andhra Pradesh’s most scenic hill destination — a lush landscape of coffee and pepper plantations, tribal villages, and misty valleys. The journey on the Kirandul Passenger Train from Visakhapatnam — passing through 58 tunnels and 84 bridges — is one of India’s most scenic train rides. Padmapuram Gardens, the Tribal Museum, and the magnificent Borra Caves — one of India’s largest cave systems at 705 metres — are unmissable attractions.
- Amaravati — The Ancient Buddhist Capital: On the banks of the sacred Krishna River, Amaravati is one of India’s most significant Buddhist heritage sites and the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Amaravati Mahachaitya Stupa dating back to the 3rd century BCE was one of the greatest Buddhist monuments of ancient India. The Dhyana Buddha Statue — at 125 feet, one of the tallest Buddha statues in India — is a modern landmark that draws thousands of visitors. Nearby Nagarjunakonda is a UNESCO-listed island archaeological site rich in ancient Buddhist sculptures and ruins.
- Lepakshi — The Temple of Legends: Located in the Anantapur district, Lepakshi is one of Andhra Pradesh’s most extraordinary archaeological treasures. The Veerabhadra Temple at Lepakshi is celebrated for its magnificent Vijayanagara-era frescoes, the world’s largest Nandi monolith, and most famously its hanging pillar — a stone column that does not fully touch the ground — one of India’s most intriguing architectural mysteries.
- Horsley Hills — Andhra Pradesh’s Hill Station: Set at 1,265 metres in the Chittoor district, Horsley Hills is Andhra Pradesh’s most popular hill station — a cool, forested retreat named after W.D. Horsley, a British collector. The Mallamma Temple, Horsley Hills viewpoint, and an ancient Eucalyptus tree believed to be over 150 years old and planted by Horsley himself are the key attractions. Ideal for family getaways and weekend escapes from Chennai and Bengaluru.
- Srikakulam — The Arasavalli Sun Temple: The northern coastal district of Srikakulam is home to the Arasavalli Sun Temple — one of only two Sun Temples in India where the sun’s rays directly illuminate the deity at sunrise. Bheemunipatnam (Bheemli Beach) near Vizag is one of India’s oldest municipalities and features a historic Dutch cemetery, adding a unique colonial heritage dimension to the Andhra coastline.
Best Time to Visit Andhra Pradesh
- October–February (Winter): The best and most recommended season to visit Andhra Pradesh — cool, dry, and pleasant weather across the state with temperatures between 15°C and 28°C. Tirupati darshan, Amaravati sightseeing, Vizag beaches, and Lepakshi temple visits are all ideal during this period. The Brahmotsavam festival at Tirupati (September–October) and Visakha Utsav in December are major seasonal highlights not to be missed.
- March–May (Summer): Summer is hot across the plains with temperatures reaching 38°C–44°C in interior Andhra. However, Araku Valley and Horsley Hills remain pleasantly cool and are ideal summer escapes. Coastal Vizag is warm but breezy. Best suited for hill station holidays and coastal getaways rather than extensive plains sightseeing.
- June–September (Monsoon): The southwest monsoon arrives in June bringing heavy rainfall to coastal Andhra and the Eastern Ghats. Araku Valley and the Eastern Ghats turn lush and dramatically beautiful during the monsoon. Waterfalls like Talakona, Ethipothala, and Kothapalli are at their most spectacular from July to September. Coastal areas may experience rough seas — beach activities are best avoided during peak monsoon months.
