Five days. One of India’s most extraordinary landscapes. This Meghalaya tour takes you through the mist-draped hills of Shillong, the thundering waterfalls of Cherrapunjee — the wettest place on earth —the impossibly clear waters of the Dawki River, and the immaculate lanes of Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village. A journey through nature at its most dramatic and most delicate.
Overview
WHERE THE CLOUDS COME DOWN TO EARTH
Meghalaya — the name itself means “Abode of Clouds” — and from the moment you arrive, you understandwhy. This is a land of extraordinary contrasts: mountains cloaked in pine and mist, rivers so transparent they appear to have no water at all, waterfalls that plunge hundreds of feet into gorges of deep, resonant green, and villages so pristine they seem to belong to another era entirely.
Few destinations in India offer the sheer visual richness and ecological wonder of Meghalaya. Fewer still offer it with such quiet, unhurried grace.
This five-day, four-night journey is designed to take you through the very best of the region — beginning with the scenic road from Guwahati to Shillong, the charming hill city that the British once called the “Scotland of the East.” From Shillong, your days unfold across some of the most spectacular natural landscapes on the subcontinent.
You will stand at the edge of Laitlum Canyons as the gorge drops away beneath you into a vast, silentvalley. You will walk down through living green jungle to the turquoise curtain of Krang Suri Falls and feel the cool mist on your face. You will cross into the village of Mawlynnong — voted the cleanest village in Asia — and step out onto a treehouse platform that looks out over the plains of Bangladesh. You will boat on the Umngot River at Dawki, the water beneath you so clear and still that the boat appears to float in mid-air.
And in Cherrapunjee, where the earth receives more rainfall than almost anywhere else in the world, you will witness what happens when water and stone have been working together for centuries — in fallsof breathtaking scale, in caves carved by ancient rivers, and in the extraordinary engineering of theliving root bridges, grown and shaped by human hands over generations.
This is not simply a tour. It is an encounter with a landscape unlike any other in India.
