Kashmir
Welcome to Kashmir — Heaven on Earth
Kashmir is India’s most breathtaking destination — a Himalayan paradise of shimmering lakes, flower-strewn meadows, snow-draped peaks, and Mughal gardens that have captivated poets, emperors, and travellers for centuries. Nestled between the Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan ranges, the Kashmir Valley is a world apart — where the turquoise waters of Dal Lake reflect the snow-capped giants above, where Shikara rides at dawn feel like floating through a dream, and where every season brings a new face of extraordinary beauty. Our Kashmir tour packages are designed to help you experience every shade of this incomparable valley — from the alpine meadows of Gulmarg and Pahalgam to the ancient shrines of Srinagar — with comfort, care, and deep local insight.
Top Places to Visit in Kashmir
- Srinagar — The City of Lakes & Gardens: The summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, Srinagar is the soul of the valley. A stay in a traditional houseboat on Dal Lake, a Shikara ride through the floating vegetable markets, and a walk through the 400-year-old Mughal gardens — Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi — are unmissable experiences. The historic Shankaracharya Temple and the revered Hazratbal Shrine are also key landmarks.
- Gulmarg — India’s Premier Snow Destination: At an altitude of 2,650 metres, Gulmarg is India’s leading ski resort and home to one of the world’s highest cable cars — the Gondola — offering panoramic Himalayan views from Kongdori and Apharwat Peak. In summer, Gulmarg transforms into a vast green bowl perfect for trekking, golf, and pony rides across meadows carpeted with wildflowers.
- Pahalgam — The Valley of Shepherds: Set along the Lidder River amid dense pine forests and alpine meadows, Pahalgam is Kashmir’s most picturesque resort town. It is the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage and the gateway to stunning spots like Betaab Valley, Aru Valley, and River rafting, trekking, and pony rides are popular activities here.
- Sonamarg — The Meadow of Gold: Sonamarg, meaning ‘Meadow of Gold’, sits at 2,800 metres on the road to Ladakh. The Thajiwas Glacier, accessible by pony or trek, draws visitors throughout summer. Sonamarg is also the gateway for high-altitude treks to Vishansar and Krishansar lakes and offers spectacular views of the Sindh Valley and surrounding glaciers.
- Doodhpathri — The Valley of Milk: One of Kashmir’s best-kept secrets, Doodhpathri is a pristine meadow valley where milky-white streams rush through dense silver-fir forests. Far less crowded than Gulmarg or Pahalgam, it offers an authentic, tranquil Kashmiri experience that nature lovers and off-beaten-path travellers will treasure.
- Yusmarg — Kashmir’s Hidden Gem: A serene, unspoiled meadow ringed by pine forests and Himalayan peaks, Yusmarg is perfect for families and those seeking quiet escapes. Pony rides to Nilnag Lake, nature walks, and picnics on open grasslands make it an ideal day-trip from Srinagar.
Best Time to Visit Kashmir
- March–May (Spring): The most romantic season — valleys bloom with cherry blossoms, tulips at the Asia’s largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar, and the famous chinar trees burst into new green. Temperatures are mild and pleasant, making it ideal for sightseeing, Shikara rides, and garden visits.
- June–August (Summer): Peak season for Kashmir tourism — warm days, clear skies, and lush green landscapes. The best time for Pahalgam, Sonamarg, trekking, and adventure activities. Gulmarg, Doodhpathri, and Yusmarg are at their most vivid. The Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage season falls in July–August.
- September–November (Autumn): Arguably Kashmir’s most beautiful season — the chinar trees turn into brilliant shades of gold, amber, and crimson, and the crowds begin to thin. An ideal time for photography, leisurely houseboat stays, and exploring Srinagar’s old city.
- December–February (Winter): The season of snow — Gulmarg transforms into a world-class ski destination and the entire valley is blanketed in white. The Dal Lake freezes partially, creating ethereal frozen landscapes. Best suited for snow lovers, adventure seekers, and honeymooners seeking a white winter escape.
How to Reach Kashmir
- By Air: Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar is well-connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and other major cities with daily direct and connecting flights. The airport is approximately 15 km from the city centre. For Ladakh, Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport connects to Delhi and Srinagar.
- By Road: Kashmir is accessible via the National Highway 1 (Jammu–Srinagar Highway) — a scenic 300 km route through the Banihal Tunnel (now Banihal-Qazigund Rail Link tunnel) and the iconic Jawahar Tunnel. The Mughal Road connecting Shopian to Bafliaz via Peer Ki Gali is a spectacular alternate route open in summer.
- By Train: The Kashmir Railway (USBRL project) now connects Jammu Tawi to Banihal via the Banihal-Qazigund section, with further extension to Srinagar and Baramulla underway. Travellers typically take a train to Jammu Tawi and then travel onward by road or bus to Srinagar.
