Your first destination is Hoa Lu — the ancient capital of Vietnam that ruled during the 10th and 11th centuries. Act One: Son Tra Peninsula. The road winds up through jungle to the Linh Ung Pagoda, where a 67-metre-tall white Buddha Lady stands sentinel over the city below — the Lady Buddha of Da Nang, a city's symbol of peace, looking out over sky and sea.

Act Two: Marble Mountain. Five marble-and-limestone hills rise from the coastal plain, each named for one of the five elements. You ascend by cable car — one of the longest non-stop single-track cable cars in the world — the city shrinking below as forests thicken and clouds begin to drift past the windows. At the Night Station, visit Vong Nguyet Hills, the serene Linh Ung Pagoda overlooking the entire Da Nang valley, and the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the Old French Villas.

Continue higher to Nui Chua Mountain, the crown of the Ba Na range. Here, explore the flower-draped Le Jardin D'Amour, descend into the atmospheric Debay Ancient Wine Cellar — a 100-year-old French vault carved into the mountain — and ride the hill climbing funicular, the first of its kind in Vietnam.

And then — the moment that will define your photos, your memories, and quite possibly your Instagram for years to come: The Golden Bridge. Two enormous stone hands emerge from the mountainside, cradling a gleaming golden walkway that stretches 150 metres through the clouds. Walking across it, with Da Nang shimmering far below and mist swirling around the giant hands, is surreal, cinematic, and utterly unforgettable.
